HISTORY
In the history of corten steel we have data from 1822 which states that adding copper to normal steel the resistance to corrosión was better, but it was really since the 20th century when this steel started to be investigated. In 1933, Kendal and Henderson from USS Stell started comercializing this steel under the name of Cor-ten, adding 0,03% of Copper to the chemical composition.
In later years the number of tests increased until incorporating Si (silicon), P (phosphorus) and Cr (chromium) to the formula and two versions of the corten steel were developed: One with nickel called Corten A and without nickel called corten B. In EEUU test were made about the oxidation in different atmospheres. The ASTM comittee exposed different steels with copper content adn they saw that the self-skating steel could be used wihtout paint and galvanization for bridge works where a durable steel with at least 100 years of durability was needed.
CHARACTERISTICS
CORTEN SHEET IN FORMAT
The corten sheet of METALCORTEN is fabricated in the best and most modern European factories with recicled strap in electro-intensive production under specifications and chemical composition determined by our I+D team, specialized in tube fabrication and especially with the objetive of highlighting the characteristic orange color of our corten sheet. This colour and texture is unique and different from any other brand. We offer qualities COR-TEN A @USS STEEL with original patent, quality S355J2WP (maximized in copper) and HC 315 INDATEN in thickness from 1.5 to 20mm. Eveything on stock. We can schedule and fabricate any other customized need.
We can reach any possible thickness from 1.5 to 20-50-100mm thank to our stock of thousands of tones of commercial formats and coils and also thank to our cut lane and customized plasma cutting, which let us cover any requirement our customer needs.

Corten steel plate cut from sheet (S355J2WP) in plasma is the asnwer to the variety of plates that are not in limited production and there is not laminade due to the minimum quantity of fabrication.
The cut of sheet in formats 3000×1500 and 6000×1500 let us have a large amount of different measures on stock and also being able to cut special measures our customer may ask for.

CORTEN TUBE
Since 2016 we start the fabrication of structural corten tube in order to asnwer the demand of any type of edification with the same composition of our corten sheet, so we can make sure that it does not pollute the sheet we work with in the same edifications. Quality S355J2WP.
Currently we have a monthly fabrication program of every measure on stock from 2mm to 3mm (all our tubes have a thickness of tolerance -0 + 0.2. We always guarantee the nominal thickness or more) so we can fabricate measures and thicknesses out of our catalog.
We have available a wide range of corten tube (length 6000mm) on permanent stock. For any other measure, please do not hesitate to contact us.

ELECTRODES FOR CORTEN STEEL
Our R&D department has developed special discs which composition is a polyamide mixture for the removal of calamine from the steel. Our discs completely clean the calamine of black carbon steel, preserving 100% of the base steel. This way, the mechanical characteristics of Corten steel prevail intact and with the perfect finish for uniform oxidation.
For good handling by professionals, we manufacture it in 125mm diameter. In this way the weight of the radial machine does not affect working time.

ACCESORIES AND RUST ACTIVATORS
ELECTRODES FOR CORTEN STEEL
The special electrodes for corten is an electrode with a humidity-resistant coating, LMA alloyed with Ni and Cu, which contributes to a steel with a really good resistance to the corrosion by seawater and combustion gases. It is appropiate for the welding of weather-resistant steels (COR-TEN) and for shipbuilding. This electrode can be used for all types of joints and welding positions.
METALCORTEN RUST ACTIVATOR
CHARACTERISTICS
METALCORTEN RUST ACTIVATOR is an oxidizing solution of water-soluble mineral salts to accelerate the rust process on iron and steel-made surfaces such as the corten steel.
SURFACE PREPARATION
The surface must be without calamine. Hot-rolled iron, black iron and cast iron must be blasted to remove the calamine present on the surface. If the surface has grease, it must be degreased.
APLICATION
Let the product act and repeat the aplication. Although the rust starts instantly, we recommend to let the product act during at least 3 days.
METALCORTEN PROTECTOR
It is a trasnparent sealer that proctects the steel and surfaces from the paints and effect range. Effect sealant forms a film on high acidity surfaces, prevents subsequent oxidation and prevents the color from yellowing. Chemically protects and minimizes subsequent oxidation, creating a self-reticular barrier to resist weathering. It does not require dilution with water when applied directly to metals. When applied over iron, copper or bronze paints, dilutes only the 1st layer in equal parts with mineral water. It does not require the subsequent application of any finished varnish. Note: The Effect Sealant product is sensitive to moisture during the drying process. When working outdoors, do not apply the product if there is a risk of rain during the 3 days following application.
